How much benadryl will it take?

I was doing stuff on the computer the other day when I turned around and found Emma asleep. It was 5:00. I thought "no way are you doing this to me at this hour" so I proceeded to wake her up. She was way more dopey than I thought she should be after what we had done that day. So I just tried to keep her up until 7:00. At bed time I had gone into my room when I noticed the benadryl bottle on my night stand...EMPTY. Click, click, click the pieces came together. Emma had taken the last 1/4 of the benadryl. No wonder she was so tired. When I called my mom to tell her that I now knew what dose it took to knock Emma out she asked me why I had given her that much. I told her "I didn't. She drank it in my room in the middle of the afternoon". I couldn't believe it. How she got the CHILDPROOF cap off is beyond me. Benadryl normally makes her hyper but I guess now I know what dose will knock her out right? Just kidding

Dodgers lost, we lose a tooth, and we have a pass out

We went to one of our favorite Dodger games recently. It is one where you got to watch a Celebrity game also. It is always a good time. What typically happens is you get to go on the field (before the regular game) and watch the celebrities play and you can run around in outfield. Then you get a watch the Dodgers play. Well this year the Dodgers played first and the celebrity game was after. We got tickets in the All You Can Eat Pavilion which was a lot of fun. All the foot long Dodger dogs you can eat plus popcorn, nachos, peanuts, soda and water. Because the Dodgers played first it ended up being a day game. Good thing we were in the All You Can Eat Pavilion because I think we drank our moneys worth that day. We were in outfield and had the sun blazing on us in the heat of the day. It was suppose to be 91 degrees that day (that is what it said when we checked but who knew that they do the temperature by the airport which is right by the ocean. Much much cooler over there then where Dodger Stadium is) so we were prepared for hot but not for HOT. It ended up being 115 degrees. That is a whole lot of HOT that we were not expecting. During the game Emma fell of the bench and of course fell right on a metal piece on the bench in front of us and nice big scape up her back. Also while we were watching the Dodgers play Tanner turned to me and his tooth that was a tiny bit loose now was a whole lot loose. He has a hard time getting teeth to come out so I told him how cool it would be to lose it while at Dodger Stadium. So he decided to play work on getting it out. 7th inning stretch came and went and he still hadn't lost the tooth. In the 9th inning he looks at me and says "mom it is out". We were all excited and I got my camera out and was taking a picture when all of a sudden someone falls on my lap. I look down and Emma is laying on my lap. I thought for a second that she was just playing around when it hit me she had passed out. We went from Tanner that is great laugh laugh high 5 to a oh my goodness and trying to throw my camera to someone before she fell off my lap. She came around pretty quick but what a scare. We took her down to the covered area and soaked her head with water and got some sugar in her to perk her up a bit. Mike wanted to leave but my worry was if she passed out again I didn't want to be in LA traffic. So we stayed there for awhile longer to make sure she was okay and close to the medical staff. The Dodgers lost and we didn't end up staying for much of the celebrity game Tanner wanted to play on the field a bit so we did that and left. What a day. Never a dull moment around here I tell you.

It has been too long

I know I haven't written in awhile. We have had company and have been having such a busy summer. I always though summer would be so much easier. Well I was wrong and I can't wait for school to start to have my schedule back. Anyways I am going to try to catch you up a bit on what we have been doing that past 1 1/2 months or so.

Oh it starts

We were at a birthday party last week and my friend Joy was telling me that her son had been really upset when he got in the car a few days before. She said that she put him off for a few minutes but he didn't let up. She finally asked "Ethan what is wrong." He says "Olivia is not my friend anymore." She said why not? He says "because she told me that she was going to marry Tanner and that he would be her husband and she would not let him play with me anymore but Tanner was my friend first." As Joy is telling me this I look over and Tanner is standing up against the tree (Olivia had put him there) and she told him he needed to stay there and she went off and played. Oh it starts. Joy and I died laughing. It was sooo funny.

Father's Day or Son Day

At church Tanner turns to me and says "mom today is Father's Day but why isn't it Sunday". I said "Tanner it is Sunday. You know that." He says "no it should be SON day today shouldn't it (and he pointed to himself)?" I started to laugh. He says "I think we should have a son day because there is Father's Day and Mother's Day." I said "that would be nice". He says "I want SON day to be Tuesday okay?" What a character

Why we love our dad

Before we gave Mike his father's day presents I asked the kids to say why they loved their dad. These are some of their responses.
I love you dad because you help me clean up my room--Emma
I love you dad because you take me to church--Emma
I love you dad because you give me kisses--Emma
I love to play the Wii with my dad and watch movies--Tanner
I love my dad because he plays with me--Tanner
I love my dad because he listens to our songs from Wicked--Tanner

I never thought I would detest a letter in the alphabet

My little Emma is very cute, and inquisitive. She asks a lot of questions, which for the most part I really enjoy that she wants to learn. But lately when she asks a question after I have answered she turns to ask "Y". Once I have answered she again turns the question of "Y". There is no end to this. I could get back to the "and that is why the dirt was made" and she would still ask "Y". I have come to cringe a little when I know that it is coming. (It actually is kind of funny.) I was in the store the other day and we had been shopping for a couple of hours. So there had been plenty of "Y" questions that had been asked. I was getting to my "Y" question max. We were in the grocery store and it was "Y" are you buying those beets? Because we want to eat them. "Y"? Because they are good for us. "Y"? Because....... "Y"? Because...... and it continued. I finally said okay Emma enough. "Y" mom. A lady behind me started to laugh. I turned around and said I am a little tired of the "Y" questions and she continued to laugh. I thought that she must have had an Emma. And as we walked away Emma asked "Y" did that lady talk to you. And so in continues.

The Training Wheels Are Off

Tanner has finally done it. He is riding his bike without training wheels. They came off on Thursday and he pretty much took right to it. We would steady him a bit and then run with him (and he thought we were holding on the whole time) but he was doing it himself. Friday we would get him started and then Saturday he now can just take off. He was so proud of himself. I couldn't believe it. I thought it would come with a lot of tears, and being scared but there was none of that. We are so proud of him.

We call him a really good sport

On Memorial Day we had a work party. It was a luau theme. They put on a really good party. It was the perfect day for a party. It was a little cloudy and had a nice gentle wind. They did a carnival for the kids and then we had great food (as always). There is a lady that works with Mike and her daughter is taking hula dancing so she asked the class to come share some of their dances. They were all so cute and it was quite a treat. They then asked for some audience participation. They almost had enough people but needed 1 or 2 more. My wonderful, good sport of a husband was asked if he would help them out and he smiled and said sure. I don't think he knew what he had just committed too. He had to put on the grass skirt, the coconuts and the lei (I think that is how you spell it). Then it was time to learn how to dance. He did a really good job. I think I took about a 100 pictures because for some reason I just couldn't stop taking them. I noticed there were quite a lot of other people taking them of Mike and telling him that they would be in the break room the next day. Here is a picture so you can see how fun this really was.

It has been awhile

Hello everyone. We are still alive. Sorry it has been sooooo very long. Stinkin life has gotten in the way. From doctors appointments, to school coming to a close, to working, to no sleep and no energy there has been no time to write. I am going to do my darndest to get caught up. So I am going to add a few today.

Deceptively Dewonderful

If you haven't gotten the Deceptively Delicious recipe book it is one worth getting or taking look at to get ideas. I got it for Christmas but I really didn't start using it until Valentines Day. The first recipe I tried were the pink pancakes. It used beets in it to make them pink and you could not tell at all. They were soooo good. I have been adding cauliflower puree, sweet potato puree, zuccini puree, tomato puree and flax seed to most everything I make and no one can tell. It has actually made the dish taste so much better. It enhances the flavor. It is amazing. But the truly amazing part is my kids love it. Tanner said "mom can you make those tacos again. They are my favorite and I just loved them". Even if you like vegetables it is nice to do because you add all of those nutrients without the bulk of vegetables. You don't feel like you have eaten 1/2 a cup of cauliflower when you really have. It is wonderful. I have tried it in spaghetti, potato soup, tacos, noodles, ranch chicken salad and a few others I can't remember right now. If you have a hard time getting kids to eat vegetables this book is a wonderful reference or just steam up some vegetables and puree them and your kids will get them without knowing.

What do antibiotics and plastic wrap have in common?

Do any you have the same problem as I have had lately? Tanner was on an antibiotic and everyday (for about 5 days) I could swear that this was the last dose, and yet there was another after another, after another. I have had the same problem with a package of plastic wrap that I have. For 3 months every time I use it I think "finally I can get rid of this stupid plastic wrap that really doesn't wrap around anything and I can start the really good one that I have". But it has been 3 months and it is still hanging on. Well you might say "just throw it out" but I can't bring myself to waste it. It is crazy. I said to Mike the other day that I never realized paying your tithing would make it so your plastic wrap and antibiotic kept being replenished.

Are kids affected by the movies they see?

Tanner was sick the other day. He had these really high fevers and 2 days into it his nose started bleeding every night. So he was laying around watching movies (so I really knew he wasn't feeling well because for some reason my kids seem to act so normal or even hyper when they are sick). He was watching Air Bud because I had recorded it for him and close to the end there was a part where the little boy was trying to save the dog but he couldn't take him home with him or the "bad guy" would still get him. So he threw a ball, to distract the dog, and ran away and got in the boat and the dog tried to follow but then had to get back to shore. I looked at Tanner and asked if he was okay because he looked really sad (and I couldn't tell if he was just tired or upset). He looked at me and said "mom why did he leave the dog? The dog needs to be with him" and with that he started to sob. I have never seen him sob so bad. It was so sad but yet so cute. It also made me realize that our children are paying attention to what they are watching and they feel it.

I need blog addresses

Please leave your blog addresses because I only have Mandee's at the moment. And if anyone knows how to put them on my blog site so I can click to them when it is open I would love to know how. Thank you

Valentines Day

We had a really good Valentines Day this year. We celebrated a day early (cuz Mike had to work late the next night) and it was so nice. We made pink pancakes, dyed the milk pink, and had bacon (close enough to red/pink right?) The kids had a ball. They were a little skeptical about the pink milk (I would have had strawberry milk but I didn't have enough for everyone) but once they tried it everything was good. I had a recipe for pink pancakes from the Deceptively Delicious cook book and thought it was a perfect day to try them out. They are made with beets. I must admit I didn't make the recipe from the book (because I hadn't gone to the store and didn't have everything or I would have had strawberry milk also) but I just added 1/2 a cup of beets to pancake mix, added water and some vanilla and delish. You can't taste the beets at all (Mike even ate them and he is picky at times) The day of love this year was a good one. I hope you all had a good one also.

Those precious moments

Mike and I have been trying super hard lately to be more calm, to keep our voices not so raised, and to keep the frustration with the kids under check. It is really really difficult but I have started to realize how much it really pays off. There is a different spirit in our home. I don't feel as anxious. It has been wonderful. Now I am not going to say that we are perfect in this. My voice has been raised and there still is frustration (that is part of having children) but we are trying to make them our joy more and not our job.

The biggest difference we have seen is with our little Emma. For those of you who don't know her she is a fireball. She has so much energy. She gets into many things and has a hard time listening. She very rarely sits still and the listening skills, well it sometimes feels like they are non-exisistant. It has only been a week since we have been trying extra hard in what we do and say. Today, as Emma watched a movie she kept asking me to sit next to her. She put her arm around me and then turned to me and said "you are so nice to me mom. You are the best mom in the whole world."

It is moments like these I really believe that we need to remember why we are doing this and that we are the ones that make the difference. It is also moments like these that we need to carry on.

Surprise Jenessa

On my birthday I received a balloon bouquet with a poem inside telling me that I had someone picking me up on Friday at 8:00. So for days I wondered who it could be and what we were going to be doing. My friend Amberly showed up with a birthday crown (which I had to wear all night because I know how happy it would make Amberly) and said okay lets go. So we were off, and we were off to well I still didn't know where. We got the the theater and she paid for our tickets and we went inside. I now knew we were going to a movie (I am quick and soooo very smart) but had no clue which one we were seeing. When we walked in 3 of my other friends were in there waiting. We ended up seeing Juno. It was one I had wanted to see. It looked really funny on the trailers. I liked parts of it but it was so crude, if you asked my opinion on seeing it I would say you really could miss it. We ended up going out for steamers (my favorite) after at Starbucks and because I was wearing my birthday crown I got mine for free. (I think I will take that little crown whenever I go from now on.) I was really surprised and I had a great time. Thank you all.

I am vanilla what are you?

I took this on Mandees blog recently. I thought it was interesting.

Looking for a new show?

If you are looking for a new show to watch try the new series Eli Stone.  Mike and I have really enjoyed it.  It is about a lawyer who has hallucinations but these hallucinations essentially help him take the cases that he needs to so he can help those who might not otherwise have a chance. It is funny, has the drama, is clever, and witty and we really like it.  If you need a new show give it a try.

30 is WONDERFUL

I turned 30 yesterday and I must say it has been wonderful.  I think I might do it again next year. Forget saying I am 29 because this 30 thing is great.  I was blessed to have wonderful friends and family call and I was able to do what I wanted all day long.  I told Mike I was going to do a lot of nothing and that is exactly what I did....a whole lot of nothing.  Thank you for all of the phone calls and cards.  You all have helped make turning 30 wonderful.

I am finally up a running

This is soooooo cool.  I have been trying to do this since Mandee and I went to Utah in October.  I actually set one up with her while I was there but forgot the passwords and the address so I couldn't continue.  I now have it all written down on a handy dandy little yellow post-it note.

I am so excited to be doing this.
